The elusive Indian prince

A running joke between a friend and I is how to meet an Indian prince -tall, dark and handsome. Failing that, we're free to make up fake husbands as we go along and get asked the questions many women travellers get asked by curious locals. "Are you married?" The answer is always "yes", whatever your status.
That question is usually followed by "Where's your husband? What does he do?"

My preferred occupation for my fake hubby is teacher. It's easy to explain. You can then make up whatever reason, e.g. school holidays, to say why he's not there right now but you are meeting the next day or at the next stop. This is not to deliberately mislead the casual, nosy passerby but to be aware of your safety as women travellers.

  2. Another one a tour group member thought up was yes, my partner is being posted to Mumbai or Bangalore for an IT job, and I am travelling while he's working.

    1. Good one too. I am just wondering what will be the typical occupation for fake wife for a male travellers or they would rather not have one in order to increase their chances of meeting someone!
